Kansas City Blues From the April/May 2008 edition of BIG CITY RHYTHM & BLUES Magazine Frank Plas is one of Kansas city's foremost guitar masters. He lists T-Bone Walker and Buddy Guy as early influences, but he definitely has a style all his own. He started his career in the late 1950's with his group, The Fabulous Silver Tones. They played the Kansas and Missouri "Twist Circuit" throughout the early 60's and scored local radio hits with "Midnight Thunder" in 1960 and "Dimples" in 1961. They were the house band at a teen club called the Soc Hop, and for years played for thousands of people. The original Silver tones disbanded in '63, and Frank went on to do session work playing with artists like, Jimmy Reed, Little Junior Parker, and the Drifters, before basically retiring for a few decades. In 2006, he put a new version of the Silver Tones on stage for the Soc Hop Reunion Show. Since then he has been playing his own brand of blues mixed with classic rock 'n' roll. You can catch him at any number of K. C. Blues clubs. Frank Plas and the Silver Tones are currently being featured by Time Warner on Time Warner Cable television and on Time Warner's "KC on Demand" World Wide Web/Internet.
